The Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) will be held in Changsha next month. China has maintained its position as Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years.

Tang Wenhong introduced that the theme of this year’s Expo is "China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization", co-hosted by the People's Government of Hunan Province and the Ministry of Commerce of China. This is one of the most significant economic and trade exchange activities between China and African countries this year. At the meeting, Tang Wenhong provided an overview of recent China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. The first characteristic is the steady growth in trade scale. In 2024, China-Africa trade volume reached $295.6 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 4.8%, setting a new historical record for the fourth consecutive year. China has maintained its position as Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. China's imports from Africa reached $116.8 billion (up 6.9%), while exports to Africa totaled $178.8 billion (up 3.5%). China's ultra-large market offers vast opportunities for commodities of Africa. Taking pecans as an example, 90% of South Africa's pecans produced every year are exported to China. The Chinese market has driven South Africa to become the world's third-largest pecan producer. The second characteristic is the continuous accumulation of investment momentum. The recent years witnessed Chinese enterprises' increased construction and investment in various African economic and trade zones, advancing industrial chain cooperation and making significant contributions to local tax revenues, employment and export earnings. Building a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the Multipolarization Process

In September 2023, the African Union became a full member of the G20, making it the second regional organization to join the mechanism after the European Union. In November 2023, representatives from the AU and CARICOM unanimously agreed at a Ghana summit to establish a "global reparations fund", urging European nations to formally apologize and compensate for Africans enslaved during the transatlantic slave trade, aiming to elevate their international voice and resist Western oppression and control. On January 1, 2024, BRICS officially expanded to 10 member states, aligning with the shared aspirations of emerging markets and developing countries, conforming to the historical trend of world multipolarity, and fully demonstrating the bright prospects of BRICS cooperation. Currently, Africa holds three of the ten BRICS membership seats, further enhancing the African presence within the BRICS mechanism. This expansion marks a new era of collective self-reliance for the "Global South," significantly enhancing its representation and voice in international affairs and promoting a more just and equitable system of global governance. In 2013, President Xi Jinping made his first state visit to Africa, proposing the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in China's Africa policy as well as the principles of upholding justice while pursuing shared interests, which have charted the course and provided fundamental guidance for China-Africa cooperation in the new era. ...

"Air-Air Intermodal Transport" Expanding Export to Africa: Hunan's First Batch of Africa-Bound Goods Under SPA Transport Agreement Clears Customs

In the early hours of March 15, Hunan's first Africa-bound export shipment under an SPA transport agreement was airlifted via bellyhold cargo on a Changsha-Nairobi flight. The goods, transported by China Southern Airlines to Kenya, were subsequently forwarded to Nigeria by Kenya Airways. SPA stands for Special Pro-rate Agreement. Compared to traditional single-airline cargo transport modes, SPA products can expand airline transportation networks to destinations that cannot be reached directly by the airlines' own flights. In addition, SPA can effectively utilize the air transport capacity by fostering collaboration among different airlines, thereby improving flight load factors. China Southern Airlines and Kenya Airways signed an SPA-based transport agreement, through which the two parties launched "air-to-air interline" cooperation, with China Southern operating the Changsha-Kenya route and Kenya Airways handling the African segment. "The SPA-based Transport Agreement has not only expanded our export market to Africa but also reduced operational time by 8-12 hours compared to traditional transport modes", said Wang Zi, head of international on-site support at China Southern Airlines Logistics. It is reported that Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs will continue supporting and promoting more airlines to adopt the SPA transport agreement mode, further expanding China-Africa logistics channels.

Pioneering New Pathways as a "Hub" — Hunan Cultivating China-Africa Economic Cooperation "Test Field"

Changsha, March 12 (chinanews.com) -- Reporter Lu Yi: How quickly can a dried anchovy from Kenya transform into the spicy and flavorful "Jinzai Deep-Sea Baby Fish" in the hands of Chinese consumers? The answer is less than a week. After initial processing by Hunan-based factories in the place of origin, products are exported to Hunan for further processing before entering the market. A complete industrial chain covering direct sourcing, warehousing, logistics, processing and distribution has enabled the rapid realization of the above scenario. As the permanent host of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the base for the Pilot Region for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation, Hunan has facilitated market access for a range of high-quality African agricultural and food products like Rwandan dried chili and Malagasy lamb to China. Through establishing the "African Brand Warehouse", multiple import chains for African products such as Ethiopian coffee beans, Rwandan chili and South African cashews have been formed. From facilitating market access for high-quality products to establishing the "African Brand Warehouse", from launching direct passenger and cargo flight to opening the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport corridor, from technical assistance to co-building African industrial chains... Hunan has innovated and explored pathways for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, and become one of China's most active provinces in econom...
