The Arab Republic of Egypt (جمهورية مصر العربية‎ in Arabic), abbreviated as "Egypt", with its capital in Cairo, spans two continents, Asia and Africa. Most of its territory lies in northeastern Africa, bordered by Libya to the west, Sudan to the south, the Red Sea and Palestine/Israel to the east, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. The northern coastal region of Egypt is dominated by the Mediterranean climate, while the rest by the tropical desert climate. The Country is composed of plains, river valleys and plateaus, with primary resources including oil, gas and iron ore. The total area is 1,000,145 square kilometers, with a coastline of approx. 2,900 kilometers, and the Country is divided into 27 provinces. As at September 2022, the total population of Egypt is approx. 104 million, predominantly practicing Islam and of the Eastern Hamitic ethnic group, with Arabic as the official language.

Egypt is home to the headquarters of the Arab League, a member of the African Union, and plays a significant role in Arab, African and international affairs. Egypt is Africa's third-largest economy, characterized by an open market economy with a relatively complete industrial, agricultural and service industry system. Egypt's GDP in 2021 was $385.58 billion.
