The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, abbreviated as Ethiopia, is located in northeast Africa, bordering Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, Kenya to the south, and Eritrea to the north. It has a population of 112 million (as at October 2021), comprising over 80 ethnic groups; and a land area of 1.1036 million square kilometers. The Country is divided into 2 autonomous administrative regions and 9 ethnic states; and the capital city is Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia is a member of the African Union, hosting the AU headquarters and the UN Economic Commission for Africa in its capital; and also a member of organizations such as the AU, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The economy of Ethiopia is primarily based on agriculture and animal husbandry, with a weak industrial base. Ethiopia's GDP in 2021 was $99.3 billion, with an economic growth rate of 5.6%.
