On September 12 local time, the Agreement Exchange Ceremony for the China-Zambia Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism and the Donation Ceremony for Medical Supplies and Equipment were held at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital in Zambia. Chinese Ambassador Han Jing and Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Zambia, attended the ceremony and made remarks.

Ambassador Han said in his speech that public health cooperation is an important part of partnership initiatives for joining hands to advance modernization for China and Africa. The China-Africa Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism, a key outcome of the 2024 FOCAC Summit, represents another collaborative channel beyond China's medical team dispatches to Zambia. China has assisted Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital in establishing a urological endoscopy center and is currently constructing a minimally invasive prostate cancer center. A team of experts from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University will arrive in Zambia within the year to carry out related activities. China is willing to deepen healthcare cooperation with Zambia to improve local public health standards.

Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi expressed gratitude for China's donation of medical supplies as well as the long-term support provided to Zambia in human resource training, medical equipment and infrastructure development. China has dispatched medical teams to Zambia for 46 consecutive years and assisted in building the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, making significant contributions to Zambia's health development. The establishment of China-Africa Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism will significantly enhance the urology department development at the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, improve the diagnosis and treatment standards for prostate diseases, and establish it as a regional medical center. Zambia will inherit and carry forward the all-weather friendship with China, promoting the sustainability of bilateral cooperation.
