On May 26, 2025, Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with African diplomatic envoys to China in Beijing for a collective celebration of Africa Day. The event was attended by ambassadors or chargés d’affaires from over 50 African countries, along with the representative of the African Union to China.
Wang Yi, on behalf of the Chinese government, extended festive greetings to the African diplomats, stating that China and Africa are good brothers fighting side by side and sharing a common destiny. Over the long term, the peoples of China and Africa have supported each other in the struggles for independence and sovereignty, assisted one another in exploring development paths and achieving national rejuvenation, forging a profound bond of shared breath, destiny and hearts, and composing countless tales of friendship that endure to this day. Since entry into the new era, President Xi Jinping has visited Africa five times, proposing the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in China's Africa policy, the correct view of justice and interests, and the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation. These have elevated bilateral relations between China and all African countries to a strategic level, with the overall positioning of China-Africa relations upgraded to an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, marking the best period in the history of China-Africa relations. Looking back, the enduring and resilient friendship between China and Africa stems from our commitment to equality, mutual benefit, fairness and justice. Looking ahead, China will unwaveringly prioritize strengthening solidarity and cooperation with African countries in its foreign policy, continuing mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, doing more good and practical things for African people, and being Africa's most sincere friend and most reliable partner.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 25th Anniversary of the FOCAC, during which China-Africa relations have achieved leapfrog development, with cooperation continuously expanding to higher levels, deeper dimensions and broader fields. In September last year, President Xi Jinping proposed six major initiatives for China-Africa modernization cooperation and the "Ten Partnership Actions" at the Beijing Summit of the Forum, charting a new blueprint and injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation. China-Africa cooperation holds tremendous potential and broad prospects. China is willing to seize the opportunity of the upcoming the FOCAC ministerial meeting of coordinators to reinvigorate efforts in implementing the consensus of both leaders. This will set a benchmark for high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, create a model for implementing the Global Development Initiative, continuously enhance the sense of fulfillment, happiness and security among African people, and accelerate the shared modernization of China and Africa.
Wang Yi stated that currently, the Cold War mentality and hegemonic bullying are surging against the tide, with multiple risks and challenges overlapping. The major deficits in peace, development, security and governance are increasingly widening. China is the world's largest developing country, while Africa is the continent with the highest concentration of developing countries. The more turbulent the international situation becomes, the more China and Africa must strengthen solidarity and cooperation, jointly oppose power politics, advocate multilateralism, uphold the UN-centered international system, and promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. The Communist Party of China embraces the world with a vision, dedicating itself to advancing human progress and fostering a shared future for the world. We will remain steadfast in our original mission, continue to firmly support the just positions of African countries, effectively correct the historical injustices suffered by Africa, and resolutely support Africa in playing a greater role on the international stage.
The African envoys engaged in candid discussions on the theme of "China-Africa Solidarity for a Shared Future", celebrating friendship and cooperation. They noted that the fraternal bond between Africa and China has withstood the test of international vicissitudes, with shared historical experiences, common values and mutual aspirations for development uniting the peoples of Africa and China in close solidarity. We sincerely thank China for its long-term selfless assistance in helping Africa correct historical injustices, defend national dignity, and pursue independent development. Since the establishment of the FOCAC, its highly effective practical cooperation with Africa has made significant contributions to improving the well-being of African people, played a leading role in promoting international cooperation with Africa, and set an exemplary model for international relations. African countries are deeply inspired by President Xi Jinping’s series of global initiatives and important Africa policies such as the "Ten Partnership Actions", expressing full confidence in China-Africa cooperation and a willingness to jointly advance the building of an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era. The African side will steadfastly adhere to the One-China principle, firmly support all efforts made by China to safeguard sovereignty and achieve national reunification, oppose interference in China’s internal affairs, and jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter to defend the common interests of the Global South countries. Long live Africa Day! Long live China-Africa friendship!
