China and Africa forge a diversified new mechanism for economic and trade cooperation to add momentum to common development

On the afternoon of September 5, 2024, four high-level parallel sessions of the FOCAC Summit focused on the topics of governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization, peace and security, and high-quality BRI cooperation respectively. Statements made by each representative of each country reflect their shared concerns and aspirations of China and Africa for modernization development, which are also priorities for the construction of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in the new era.

At the high-level meeting on "State Governance," participating African political leaders engaged in exchanges and discussions on the theme of exploring pathways to modernization. Participants stated that China and Africa support each other in exploring development paths suited to their national conditions, with the Chinese model offering valuable experience for modernization the of African countries.

Comorian Foreign Minister Mbae stated that China is one of the world's most economically powerful nations, and its modernization pathway is progressing steadily. This is why, as African countries, they advocate for stronger partnerships with China, adopting this modernization model for integration into their national rise, advancing alongside Chinese modernization for common development of our countries.

For the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, participating representatives stated that high-quality collaboration under this framework has played a significant role in promoting connectivity among African countries. They expressed anticipation for continued deepening and substantive progress in BRI cooperation between China and Africa in the future.

Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Saidu Alkali, stated that the essence of the Belt and Road Initiative is to bring all countries together and promote integration and development in the sector of transportation.

The Director General of Lesotho Road Authority, Teboho Mohoanyane, stated that under the Belt and Road Initiative, they have completed the reconstruction and upgrading project of the 91-kilometer-long Mpiti to Sehlabathebe Road. They look forward to achieving more outcomes from this conference. He believes that through the Belt and Road Initiative, significant achievements have been made in enhancing connectivity between African countries and Europe as well as Asia.

In the fields of industrialization and agricultural modernization, participating representatives noted that China-Africa cooperation has yielded fruitful results and expressed their anticipation for continued efforts to promote resource sharing and industrial prosperity.

Cameroon’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mbayrobe Gabriel, stated that the two sides have partnerships in many fields, such as highways and hydroelectric dams. They expressed great satisfaction with the win-win relationship established between Cameroon and China.

At present, China's economy is on an upward trajectory with solid progress in high-quality development, while Africa’s economy also maintains a steady recovery momentum. Participants expressed their anticipation for China and Africa to expand cooperation in agriculture, industry, new infrastructure and green energy, while also creating diversified new mechanisms for economic and trade cooperation to inject more momentum into shared development.
